I’d forgotten all about this, but just spent Christmas Day with her, and it made me think of the book again.

My auntie is my uncle’s wife ie. the wife of my mother’s brother, and this is her mother. She was asked on Christmas Day when she would write another book, but claimed to be “past it”.

If you don’t mind my asking…what do you mean by “auntie?” Family friend? Distant relative? Just wondering.

Margaret Birkhead is my auntie’s mother, and you’re right, it was her only novel. Not sure of the full reasoning for this, but a pity, as it was so well-received.
